Customer Rating: Summary: The Shooter Comment: This movie is very good. Alot of action, really holds your interest. I would recomend this movie if you like combat type movies.
Customer Rating: Summary: superpawn DVD's Comment: bought 13 items and were all shipped together. postage costs were $8.00 but i was charged $35.00,,,,,, should develop a policy on combined shipping.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pride and Prejudice Comment: Wow! My baby daughter gave me this DVD of "Shooter" as a birthday gift. Talk about five stars of action and adventure for entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Then I went to Amazon.com to check out reviews. I like checking out the negative reviews first usually before I decide to make a purchase. It usually saves me money. In this case they cost me money: I had to buy the book to compare with the movie based on the negative reviews dissing the movie over the book. Whoa! Tighten your bull rope and hang on to the edge of your seat for a thrilling ride. Stephen Hunter really knows how to spin a tale. "Point of Impact" is an excellent chess game masterfully played from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I already knew the final surprise checkmating play because I saw the movie.
By comparison the movie is only one star, but that is to be expected unless you're watching the whole six hours of "Pride and Prejudice". My wife forced me to sit through it once. I won't pain myself by reading the book, but she tells me the movie follows the book exactly.
My biggest disappointment between books and movies was Tom Clancy's "Clear and Present Danger". It would probably take a whole movie in itself to properly capture the shipboard confession extracted in the book and not even touched upon in the movie. I thought it was one of the best parts.
I like toying with a little fiction myself: <[...]>. I wish I could spin a novel length yarn with the skill of Stephen Hunter.
"Point of Impact" is 569 pages long while the "Shooter" dvd is only 125 minutes long. If you enjoy movies, I recommend watching "Shooter". I plan on watching it again now that I've completed the book, and I believe it will be one of the few movies I don't mind watching over and over. If you enjoy reading, I highly recommend checking out "Point of Impact". You shouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't.
I've not treated myself to the luxury of any recreational reading in a long time till recently. It seems like I have been catching up lately, e.g. Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse by James Wesley Rawles, The Lone War Cry: A Western Novel by George E. Miller, In Justice: A Novel by Alan Sears, and Enemies Among Us: A Novel by Bob Hamer. I have to get around to writing a review for all of these, but Stephen Hunter is a master yarn teller by comparison. I'll definitely will be taking a look at more of his work.
The movie did a good job capturing the essence of the book IMO, but the book does deliver soooooo much more. I'm glad I own both, and I did enjoy both.
If there wasn't a book to compare this movie to, it would get five stars.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Movie Comment: Great movie, i liked so much and i have seen this movie several times, and i will see many times more because is not boring, and i like how this guy kills the bad people like a professional.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't recommend this for action lovers. Comment: Never read the book, but the movie was boring enough. You finally get to some sort of "climax" in the film, and the main character totally chokes! If there was some intellectual reasoning behind this, it wasn't made clear in the film. If you want intelligent plot lines and intricate conspiracies, you'll probably have better luck just reading the book.
You can't even figure out what the characters are saying half the time. Does Danny Glover have poor lung capacity and need throat surgery? Because I swear there wasn't any sound coming out of his mouth throughout the film. What? What did he just say? Can you hear me now? Nope, can't hear him.
In summary - no action, no satisfaction. Just dudes who like to shoot around here and there, and lots of grocery shopping. The chick was hot though - plus she was half-naked all the way through the film. Anyway, if you want action, go watch "Taken" starring Liam Neeson.
What?! You can't give 0 out of 5 stars here?? This movie deserves a -1 out of 5.
