Customer Rating: Summary: Jaden Smith Saved This Movie Comment: I've read the harsh reviews of Jaden and I must disagree. Was his character Jacob a pain sometimes, yes but he was also a scared and confused kid and a grieving child too. Jacob to me was the voice of reason in all this mess, I too would have wanted Kattu dead after he had killed people and wanted to kill the rest of the world too. While Keanu and Jennifer slept through the movie Jaden lit up the screen. At times I wanted to slap Jacob, another time he had me laughing (waving his arms to the helicopters, "he's here" after calling the authorities)and I shed a few tears when he cryed at the cemetery. If Jennifer's character were my step mom, I would be angry too because this scientist didn't know how to be a mom. When she asked Jacob about his father's razor, instead of comforting the child by saying something to the fact, "your father would want you to have it", she just stared at him. At the cemetery the poor child was surprised that Jennifer's character actually missed his father too. She finally told the poor kid she sees his father in him everyday. Nice going step mom, you should have told the kid this a year ago. Jaden is a fine actor in my book.
As for the rest of the movie, it is nothing like the marginal and after watching the movie a few times Jennifer and Keanu's performances were not so bad. All in all I'm glad I bought the movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: blasphemy Comment: my title is my review. what group of morons thought remaking this classic film was a good idea.
Customer Rating: Summary: Complainers & haters abound! Comment: Sure it's not the best movie ever made but it wasn't that bad! Some of you people are just plain crazy. If you want dumbed-down movie watching go see a Predator vs. Alien flick. I happen to like those too but come-on already. There's always somebody who just hates everything. Geeeeeez!
Customer Rating: Summary: GORT = Ghastly Ostentatious Remake Travesty Comment: You know what makes me laugh most about this particular dvd package? The fact that someone at 20th Century Fox thought this movie was worthy of a 3-disc special edition. This movie was so patently awful and irritating that, had a brick been nearby, I might have reflexively crushed my T.V. with it. All I could think about every time that annoying kid was on screen was getting my hands around his punk neck - that character was a total distraction from the other happenings in the film (perhaps that ended up being a good thing). If my kid acted like that, I'd give him the choice of immediate drowning or military school. As for the movie, its perhaps the worst remake in a decade - certainly of the year - and an outright insult to the makers of the original. Avoid this flick like bird flu and save yourself some scratch and two precious hours of living.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good apocalyptic movie Comment: The Day the Earth Stood Still, featuring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, an alien from another world in many aspects reminded me of The Matrix - especially with a number of cinematic shots. It begins in 1928, when a mountain climber comes across a globe in the midst of a snow storm and touches it. Then jump to the present and a large pod lands in Manhattan...
The movie was good, nice, pieces of animation, but who will save the world! That job is left to Klaatu whose final job is to see if humans can live as they are destroying their planet.
Klaata is captured by the authorities and all these scientist need to figure out what to do before the alien is interrogated and then dissected (the poor ambassador of peace). Klaata mind is made up, humans must be destroyed as they are destroying themselves and the planet, but a scientist, helps him in his conquest. Aliens pods, begin to remove animal and reptile life and them disappear into the heavens and a scientist sets out to dissuade him, that we are not all bad. The earth begins to be destroyed and finally, Klaata decides he will help and after all the destruction - the earth stood still.
Good apocalyptic movie.
